A List of the Best NFT Marketplaces and Platforms

The most active NFT marketplaces are those on the Ethereum blockchain. Still, there are some great marketplaces on other blockchains, such as Solana, Tezos, and Binance.

The best platform for you depends on what you’re looking to do, whether you’re a creator or collector, and your interests. Below is a selection of the top NFT platforms on the Ethereum blockchain for NFT art, collectibles, and music. You can see a full breakdown of each NFT platform’s fees, royalties, who it is ideal for, and more.

In the following article, we cover OpenSea, MakersPlace, KnownOrigin, Nifty Gateway, Rarible, Foundation, ArtBlocks, ASync Art, Portion, Cargo, Mintbase, and Mintable.

OpenSea

OpenSea is the first and largest NFT marketplace. Think of it as the one-stop shop for all kinds of digital items. It is open to all creators and has no curation. One of the best features of this platform is that it allows gas-free minting. However, since there is no curation you would generally use it to look at projects you’re familiar with, rather than searching for gems directly from the site.

For creators, it can also be a bit tricky. If you’re an artist, you’ll need to do your own marketing campaign to get eyes on your works.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH, $WETH, $DAI

Platform fees (excluding gas): 2.5%

Best for: Beginners and creators who can promote their own work and those looking to avoid gas fees.

Auction style: Buy It Now, Timed Auctions

Royalties: Creators choose how much they would like to get paid in royalties for secondary sales.

Rarible

Rarible’s user interface and layout are a bit confusing. Still, it has quickly become one of the best NFT marketplaces due to its constant push for innovation and cross-pollination with other NFT platforms.

If you’re a creator, there are several things you’ll have to submit to be verified on the platform. Rarible also has its own token called $RARI, designed to reward active platform users with a voice on the platform’s future.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Fees (excluding gas): 2.5% of every sale

Payment: $ETH, $WETH, $DAI, $RARI, $ATRI

Best for: Anyone

Auction style: Buy It Now, Open-ended offers

Royalties: Creators choose what percentage they want to receive from secondary sales.

MakersPlace

MakersPlace is a curated, invite-only NFT marketplace. It can be relatively challenging to get accepted as a creator on the platform. You can apply to sell your creations on the site by joining the MakersPlace Discord community and receiving an invite code. The platform is ideal for established artists, musicians, photographers, or creators with a strong social media following.

Looking for NFTs on MakersPlace is a more pleasant experience than on a crowded, non-curated marketplace.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH, Credit card

Fees: 15% on every sale + 2.9% for purchases made through a credit card

Best for: Established artists, artists with a good social media following.

Auction style: Timed auction

Royalties: 10% on all secondary sales

SuperRare

SuperRare is one of the best NFT marketplaces for CryptoArt and music NFTs. Collectors can find top-notch artworks on the highly curated platform.

If you’re a creator and your application is accepted, you’ll be invited to join the platform. You’ll need to submit the information required in this application form

It is quite difficult to be accepted as an artist on the platform. You’ll need an outstanding portfolio and an impressive social media presence. But, if you do get accepted, your art will be more easily visible to collectors than on a general marketplace like OpenSea.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH

Fees (excluding gas): 15% to the gallery + 3% to the marketplace

Best for:
Artists who already have a large following and are well-known.

Auction style: Scheduled Auctions, Reserve Auctions, Open-Ended Offers, Buy It Now. Find out more here.

Royalties: 10% on every secondary sale

KnownOrigin

KnownOrigin is a curated NFT art platform. It can be relatively challenging to get accepted as an artist. However, unlike many other curated art platforms, you don’t need a large following or to be an established artist to get accepted – an exceptional portfolio is all you need.

There is also a ‘Trending’ feature which is a great tool for promoting artists and for collectors to find cool art.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH

Fees (excluding gas): 15% on every primary sale and 2.5% for secondary sales

Best for: All artists can apply, but generally established artists and artists with a strong portfolio/unique artworks will be accepted.

Auction style: Buy It Now, Timed auctions

Royalties: 12.5% of secondary sales

Foundation

Foundation quickly rose to the top as one of the best NFT platforms and became a top choice for many NFT artists and collectors.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH

Fees (excluding gas): 15% on each sale

Best for: Anyone who is talented enough to make an impression and stand out from the crowd.

Auction style: The artist sets a reserve price, and once the reserve is met, a 24-hour auction begins. If there are any new bids in the last 15 minutes of the initial auction time, the auction goes on for an extra 15 minutes.

Royalties: The platform will soon be implementing a new 10% royalty feature on every secondary sale.

Mintable

Mintable is an all-around NFT marketplace where you can buy and sell anything from art and collectibles to game items and music. Mintable also has a gasless minting option. It’s a great platform for beginners and those who can do their own marketing.

Best for: Anyone can join, good for beginners

Auction style: Traditional auction, Timed auction, Buy It Now

Portion

Portion launched its virtual gallery and auction house in 2018. This is probably one of the very few (perhaps only?) platforms that take zero percentage on artist’s sales. The team is very helpful, and the website has a beautiful design. However, it can be confusing to navigate the website and find the information you need.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH, $PRT

Fees (excluding gas): No fees

Best for: Established artists or artists with a good social media following.

Auction style: Traditional auction

Royalties: The artist decides how much they would like to receive from secondary sales.

Art Blocks

Art Blocks is one of the most unique generative art platforms out there, and artists that apply to be part of the platform need to know a thing or two about coding. It works by artists writing code that is merged into the platform, which generates different combinations of the variables at random.

Collectors don’t know what they’re getting ahead of time; they have to mint tokens before seeing what they are receiving. This approach gives everyone a chance to collect art that they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Payment: $ETH

Fees (excluding gas): 10% on every sale

Best for: Anyone who is good with generative art

Auction style: No auctions

Royalties: Artist decides how much they would like to get from secondary sales

Nifty Gateway

Nifty Gateway is a high-end marketplace for CryptoArt that partners with top artists, athletes, brands, and creators to bring ultra-exclusive works to NFT collectors. This platform is the most difficult out of all the best NFT marketplaces to get accepted on and generally only works with top artists and creative celebrities.

Fees (excluding gas): 5% + 30 cents on every secondary sale

Best for: Top creators, artists, and brands

Auction style: Buy It Now, Timed auctions, Silent auctions

Royalties: Artists choose what percentage they want to receive from secondary sales.

Mintbase

Mintbase is an NFT marketplace for art, photography, gaming items, tickets, and pretty much anything NFT. It is a great option for those new to selling NFTs, but as with every general NFT marketplace, you’ll need to promote your artworks to get noticed.

Auction style: No auction

Royalties: Artists decide on royalty fees for secondary sales

Zora

Crypto.com is one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges. In 2021 they launched their own NFT marketplace for art, celebrities, sports, gaming, music, and collectibles. To become a creator on the platform, you’ll need to submit an application with your work.

Blockchain: Ethereum

Best for: Established creators

Auction style: Timed auctions

LooksRare

LooksRare is a fairly new player, the platform launched in December 2021 and was an instant hit with the NFT community due to its unique rewards system for both users and creators. So even though there is a sales fee of 2%, these fees are combined at the end of each 6,500 Ethereum block period (approximately 24 hours) and then dispensed to $LOOKS stakers. Stakers can claim their rewards as often as they want!

Blockchain: Ethereum

Fees (excluding gas fees): 2%

Best for: Anyone

Auction style: None

Royalties: Set by creator

Blur

Blur stormed into the NFT space on October 19 2022, offering a sleek marketplace and aggregator all rolled into one. Not only that, but it also promised its users the fastest and most comprehensive sniping and sweeping tools on the market, and allowing traders to sweep multiple marketplaces at the same time. The platform raised eyebrows at the time by operating with zero platform fees and incentivizing royalty payments via platform rewards. Since then, it has updated its royalty policy to allow enforced payments on permissioned NFTs. Blur kicked off its entry into a highly competitive industry with a ‘care package’ airdrop which will give holders an unspecified number of $BLUR when the utility token launches in January 2023.
