Ben Nolan Steps Down to Focus on Building

In tandem with the mind-blowing tech upgrade, longstanding Voxels CEO, Ben Nolan, has also announced he will step down from the leadership position. Instead, the sporadically clothed Ben will leave the emails and paper-pushing role of Chief Executive Officer to focus on coding and developing as nature intended.

Despite the revelation, Mr. Nolan remains committed to the Voxels vision, stating that he is in the project ‘for the long haul.’ For the time being, an interim CEO will take the helm on a rotating basis, with plans to appoint a permanent CEO at a later date.

What Voxels is All About

The Big Voxel Delimma 

In the announcement of the event, it was explained that the works began with the idea of an empty canvas and all the potential that comes with it. 

“An empty canvas is both an invitation and a challenge – whether in analog form or as an empty digital space that needs to be filled with voxels – the three-dimensional version of the pixel,” it said. 

As part of Markus Reindl’s final year art course in virtual space, students transformed a blank canvas into a diverse collection of pieces exploring themes of identity and virtual worlds. The works, featuring pieces by artists like Anastasia Voloshina, Marcin Ratajczyk, Mariia Tikhomirova, and more, will be showcased in Voxels for all to view.

A new portal by Anarchy Arcade will let you play games on Voxels right from Somnium Space. This eliminates the need to jump from one protocol to another to play or explore different Metaverses. At the start of this week, Robert Hoogendoorn, head of content at DappRadar, challenged builders to create portals that could connect different Metaverse spaces. Users would be able to access these portals using a single NFT avatar, allowing them to freely move from one space to another.

To his surprise, such a portal existed. Responding to his tweet, Anarchy Arcade revealed that they had such a portal that allowed one to access Voxels from Somnium Space. “It is embedded right on the wall.”

Anarchy Arcade Creates Some Space Game On Voxels

By following a link, you can visit various web worlds of your choice either as a registered user or a guest. Surprisingly, the experience is quite seamless and immersive. Dubbed “Some Space Game,” the Voxels embed is a “top-down space ship shooter game.”

The game’s documentation states that it’s “designed to be embedded into parent worlds and run on virtual screens like a mini-game. The game is kept generic for very simple modding and customization on the fly via URL parameters” where “the parent world can pass in UGC customization parameters directly in the URL.”

That said, the minigame is able to run on any Iframe that supports it by relying on a pointer lock. Also, it has easy controls, with most things in it customizable through URL parameters. However, the game’s Welcome Screen acts as its credits and should not be customized.

Developed by Elijah Newman-Gomez, Anarchy Arcade is a free-to-play, indie game “that lets users spawn real-life games, movies, pictures, and other media directly from your PC or the internet into the Metaverse.”

Now the Voxels portal offers a glimpse of how Web3 users can utilize a single avatar to explore different Metaverse realms by having their characters intact without having to rebuild it over in a different space.

Cinematic masterpiece, Roots in Ego, has spent the last 12 months thrilling visitors of the Voxels realm in its own purpose-built mini movie theatre. The Kristina Weiserova short drama and comedy film has been playing in the Metaverse for the past year, and it’s still getting wild reviews.

It tells the story of Natalie, a young woman who is trying to figure out her life. As is typical with young adults, there are many poor decisions involved, whether it be through her choice of partners, excessive partying, or involvement in other vices. Eventually, she ends up hooking up with the wrong person, which ultimately leads to her downfall.

Unlike traditional films, Kristina has chosen to screen her creation in the Voxels space, where where visitors walk into a cinema using a cursor. The setting is similar to what you would expect in a movie theater, with paintings on the wall and a seating area. You can move around as you like by manipulating the cursor, resulting in a highly immersive experience. All thanks to Voxels, which enables users to own virtual land, build on it, and, in this case, launch their own film.

On the face of it, it doesn’t seem like all that big a deal, but this merging of platforms and their ability to co-exist is really what sets Web3 apart. As such, these forms of cross-dimensional interoperability will spearhead the next wave of Web3 adoption. Sooner than you think, artists and collectors will be able to transpose their NFTs from one platform into the next, while NFT ownership will unlock a spectacular host of benefits within the Metaverse.
